Appeals Process from Anne Schmiege

Appeals

If you were represented by another attorney in the trial court and are unhappy with the result, you have the right to appeal your decision. Anne Schmiege has experience handling appeals in family law, workers compensation and other civil litigation matters, and she can evaluate your case and advise you as to whether an appeal has a reasonable chance of success. Most appeals are limited to the attorneys’ written submissions by way of “briefs” that are submitted to the Wisconsin Court of Appeals or Wisconsin Supreme Court. Because of this, you need an attorney who has strong legal writing skills and is effective at writing legal arguments. Anne Schmiege has outstanding writing skills. She graduated fifth in her law school class, served as Managing Editor of the Law Review in law school and has worked on numerous appeals throughout her legal career.

Appeals can be costly and difficult to win, but there are some circumstances in which the cost is worth the risk.  It is worthwhile to at least consider this option and to seek out legal advice as to whether or not an appeal may be warranted. If you are considering an appeal, you should seek out legal advice immediately, as the deadline for appealing is very short.
